Tiramisu in a Cup – A drinkable dessert!

Tiramisu in a Cup

Tiramisu is a classic for a reason. The combination of coffee, chocolate and cream is a heavenly mix that will warm your belly and heart in equal measures. Today, we’re making a sip-able tiramisu that will come together in no time and yet remind you of the Italian classic.

I use the word tiramisu loosely because we’re going to be making quite a few changes! While we use rum to soak our lady fingers for a traditional Tiramisu, we’re going to be spiking our drink with a shot of Baileys instead. We’re also going to opt for a chocolate sauce instead of the quintessential dusting of cocoa powder. However, perhaps the biggest change will be our espresso Dalgona!

Espresso Dalgona

Dalgona was all the rage at the start of the pandemic. I couldn’t spend five minutes on Instagram without seeing a recipe for Dalgona coffee! It’s been a while since the Dalgona trend so I thought we could breathe some life back into it with our own little twist. Instead of using instant coffee, we’re going to use espresso to whip up our dalgona! Freshly brewed espresso makes a more intense and rich Dalgona that you’ll want to have by the spoonful. It may not be as stiff as one made with coffee powder but it’s perfect for this drink.

Equipment

Espresso Dalgona won’t come together without freshly brewed espresso so boy am I glad I got my hands on the Wonderchef Regalia Capsule Machine! All I need to do is get my favourite pre-packaged coffee capsules and I can make the best coffee right in the comfort of my own home. It’s clean, convenient and you don’t compromise on quality at all. In fact, coffee pods tend to be fresher since they’re hermetically sealed. This locks in the flavour, ensuring you get a perfect cup of coffee every time.

I love how easy the Regalia Capsule machine is to use. If you need a cup of coffee in the morning to wake up then let’s be honest, you don’t have time to muck about with powders and pots. Just pop a pod in and be done with it! You don’t even have to worry about cleanup since the pods automatically gather in the collection basket. It’s clever, clean and convenient! The Wonderchef Crimson Edge Hand Mixer saves me from having to beat the dalgona by hand. While it is possible to do it without a mixer, I’ve been skipping arm day at the gym so it takes me way too long!

Assemble your Tiramisu Drink

Assembly is completely up to you. You can increase or decrease the amount of espresso, milk mixture, chocolate sauce and Dalgona depending on your preferences. The Dalgona is pretty sweet so I like to add an extra shot of espresso to my milk before serving. The drink looks great all layered up, but I like to give it a good mix before drinking! It ruins the layers a bit but it tastes absolutely delicious!

RECIPE CARD

Serves:
Time: 15 – 20 minutes

Ingredients

For the Espresso Dalgona

  • 1/4 cup Hot Espresso
  • 4 Tbsp White Sugar

For the Tiramisu Drink

  • 1 cup Chilled Milk
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Cream
  • 1 oz Bailey’s Irish cream (1/8th cup or 2 tbsp)
  • 1 oz Espresso (1/8th cup or 2 tbsp)
  • Chocolate Sauce

Method:

  1. Begin by making your espresso shot. Once it’s ready, keep it aside to cool down slightly before adding the sugar.
  2. Add 1/4 cup espresso and sugar to a bowl with tall sides and beat with a hand mixer for 8-10 minutes. Be patient; it won’t be as thick as one made with instant coffee but it will become pretty thick and glossy.
  3. In a separate jug, mix together the milk, cream and baileys.
  4. Pour some chocolate sauce into the bottoms of two glasses.
  5. Follow it with a tbsp of espresso (or more if you like)
  6. Fill the glasses 3/4ths of the way with the milk mix.
  7. Top the glasses with the espresso dalgona.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy!
