PINEAPPLE OATS SMOOTHIE – TROPICAL SUNSHINE SMOOTHIE

If you like Pina Coladas (and getting caught in the rain), you’re going to love this smoothie. It’s a tropical feast with rolled oats for some added fibre. I’ve also added some coconut milk to keep the tropical party going and this absolute banger of a smoothie is the perfect way to start your day.

If you’re thinking smoothies are so easy and you don’t really need a recipe, then you’re both right and wrong. Smoothies are easy, but figuring out what ingredients go with each other can be difficult in the beginning. Sometimes it can also be difficult to get the right ratios of ingredients and not to mention, make it nutritious. The only real work in this recipe is cleaning a pineapple! If you live in a big city though, it’s easy to get pre-cleaned pineapple from your local supermarkets. We have a great pineapple farm near my house which sells the sweetest pineapples ever. Fun fact which you might not know is that pineapples actually grow on the top of the plant like a flower.

EQUIPMENT

If there’s one thing the Nutri-blend was made for it’s to make smoothies. It is hands down the easiest machine you can have to assemble, blend and clean while making smoothies. The design of the machine is so sleek and easy to use that even your mum who’s attached to her 15 year old rickety mixer will turn around and take notice!  I love that the jars have little feet that help them stay up while you add your ingredients. Just twist on the blending blades, place it in the mixer and press down to blend. However it’s the cleaning that really blows me away. Smoothies are thick and they tend to get right under the blender blades. In a traditional mixer, this becomes extremely hard to clean. However since our Nutri-blend jar screws right off, you can clean every little nook and cranny with ease.

While I’ve said this recipe serves two, if you’re like me, you might even have this entire lot by yourself! Since the recipe uses ground up rolled oats, you can even let it sit for a bit after making it so that the oats can absorb the liquid a bit more. As always, add more or less liquid to your smoothie to get it to your perfect consistency.
